State of Nebraska Proclamation
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and cause the Great
Seal of the State of Nebraska to be affixed this 17th day of January, in
the year of our Lord Two Thousand Seven
Whereas, Chadron State College through the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage
Center, the Mari Sandoz Heritage Society, the Nebraska Humanities Council
and a number of other statewide organizations are urging all citizens of
Nebraska to participate in the ONE BOOK ONE NEBRASKA reads CRAZY HORSE initiative
during the year 2007; and

Whereas, Mari Sandoz, Nebraska author, historian, and member of the Nebraska
Hall of Fame and the National Cowboy Hall of Fame's Hall of Great Westerners,
was one of the most outspoken advocates for fair treatment of Native-Americans
and for the documentation of our Plains heritage; and
Whereas, CRAZY HORSE blends an understanding of our common history with
an appreciation of our region's cultural diversity; and
Whereas, The reading of CRAZY HORSE provides a common ground for Nebraska
citizens to come together to learn about and discuss Native-American culture,
plains history, and contemporary issues.
Now, Therefore, I, Dave Heineman, Governor of the State of Nebraska, DO
HEREBY PROCLAIM the year of 2007 as
ONE BOOK ONE NEBRASKA READS CRAZY HORSE
